Natural by Nazarian is Taking All My Money

Watching reality TV is one of my guilty pleasures. In the past, shows like Nip/Tuck and Botched have lured me in with their dramatic before and after results. When I first saw Skin Decision: Before and After on Netflix, it wasn’t something I really wanted to watch but there was nothing else and we’re in quarantine so I gave it a go.

The two stars of the show are board certified plastic surgeon Dr. Sheila Nazarian and skin expert Nurse Jamie. Let me tell you, watching a show about altering your physical appearance run by two boss women was a game changer. They just get it. Watching almost felt like having girl talk over brunch with mimosas. Their whole mission is to help people achieve self love, whatever that means for them individually.
I’ve never really had anything that I felt needed to be “fixed.” My right ear actually grew folded in the womb so when I was born it was a completely different shape than the left one and protruded quite a bit. My poor mom held it back every time she breast fed me hoping it would stick but it didn’t. I wouldn’t say I’m self conscious of this but rather “aware.” I don’t like taking photos straight on because of the asymmetry and I don’t feel like I can pull off having my hair up with a part in the middle. My right (are we noticing a pattern here? Why is my right side like this..) second toe is also very different than my left. It’s a “princess toe.” I’m glad the nickname’s cute but I don’t like that it’s longer than my big toe. Keep in mind, my left one is perfectly normal. Honestly the nail curls and it can be uncomfortable in shoes. So I have these weird small things but nothing huge like a nose job or boob job.

Following Dr. Nazarian on social media (her personal account, her surgery account, her spa account AND her skincare account) has rocked my world. I’ve literally been waking up every day checking to see if she posted a new video of a surgery. I mean right now, what else do I have to live for really? We usually don’t get to see the inside of an actual human being and it’s fascinating while also a little scary realizing just how delicate our bodies actually are. Not only is she a badass female but Dr. Nazarian is freaking smart.

She came over to America when she was younger not knowing any English and somehow excelled to the point she’s at right now while simultaneously raising a family. I feel like she’s a human encyclopedia. In her videos, she’s constantly pointing out why she uses the techniques she does as opposed to other surgeons and it makes me feel like I’m lowkey in a plastic surgery for dummies class.
Besides my weird ear and toe, my biggest insecurity that I actually do want fixed is the malar edema on my upper cheeks. After so much researching, I only learned this term recently. They’re not eye bags but more so bags under your eye bags. I was born with these things so I know for me, it has nothing to do with aging and everything to do with genetics (thanks).

My whole life people have asked if I’m allergic to something because of these annoying “dents” on my face. They also make you look tired even when you’re not. I’ve learned that (and I’m obviously not a doctor) it’s probably caused by swelling below the infraorbital rim. A LOT of surgeons don’t really know how to fix this (or so I’ve read). I actually once got the Voluma filler to try and fix it but it made no difference and by now I feel like my metabolism has gotten rid of it all.

Dr. Nazarian always posts Instagram stories of her injecting herself with Botox and fillers or using a new “toy” that tightens or gets rid of stubborn fat. She’s so gorgeous that it puts the typical stereotypes of what Botox looks like to rest. Whenever I mention it to my mom she says “I don’t want to look like a cat!” But Sheila’s motto is “Natural by Nazarian” and boy does she inject everything tastefully. By educating all of her followers, she makes wanting to enhance your natural beauty something we shouldn’t feel shameful about.
As if she’s not already doing a million things a day, she has an ecommerce brand called The Skin Spot that sells medical grade skincare products and devices. Recently, my skincare routine stopped working for me. I’m not sure if it was because of all the smoke in Los Angeles or just because my skin developed tolerance to it, but I knew I had to switch things up. I mean, I’m glad I had to wear a mask outside of the house to cover my breakouts. After reading all of the information Dr. Nazarian put out there on skincare products, I decided to invest in the brand iS Clinical. I will truly never admit to a soul how much money I spent on these products but I trust Dr. Nazarian! I mean, who better to trust than a genius plastic surgeon?! I’m antsy for my package to be delivered and I’ll write a blog on how the products work for me.
So Dr. Nazarian, Sheila, I am counting down the days until our virtual consultation (5 weeks). I trust you to make me even more beautiful than I already am so that I can glow on the outside like I do on the inside.
